Consejos de pronunciacion

  • L'ingénieur: the '-gé-' sounds like the 's' in 'measure' or 'vision', never like the hard English 'j' in 'job'. The ending '-eur' is an oral vowel plus a soft French 'r', with no nasal sound at all.
  • Le/la collègue: the '-ègue' ending sounds like the 'e' in 'get', held slightly open — the grave accent on 'è' signals that open sound.
  • CDD / CDI: French spells out acronyms letter by letter using French letter names, so these sound like 'say-day-day' and 'say-day-ee', not English letter names.
  • L'entretien: the '-ien' ending is a nasal vowel with no equivalent in English — let air pass through your nose while saying a sound between 'yeh' and 'yan'. Don't forget the liaison: l'entretien flows as one smooth word.
