3To politely ask for something, which phrase is correct?

Consejos de pronunciacion

  • L'addition: the double 'dd' is pronounced as a single /d/, and '-tion' sounds like a nasal 'see-awn' — never like the English '-shun' its spelling suggests.
  • Le dessert: the double 's' gives a crisp /s/ sound. Don't confuse it with le désert (the desert), spelled with a single 's' and pronounced with a /z/ sound.
  • Le serveur: the '-eu-' is a rounded vowel with no real English equivalent — round your lips as if to say 'oh' while saying 'eh'. The final '-r' is a soft, throaty sound, nothing like the English 'r'.
  • S'il vous plaît: said as one rhythmic unit with the final 't' silent — it comes out closer to 'seel-voo-pleh'.
