3What is 'une bourse d'études'?

Consejos de pronunciacion

  • Le lycée: the '-ée' ending is a single, closed /e/ sound — there's no diphthong the way an English speaker might expect from a double vowel.
  • Passer un examen is a classic false friend: it means to take or sit an exam, not to pass it — passing is réussir.
  • La licence: the 'c' between two vowels sounds like /s/, and stress falls on the very last syllable, unlike English words where stress usually sits near the front.
  • Réviser: the 'v' is a clear, voiced sound and the ending '-er' is pronounced like a closed 'ay' — say 'ray-vee-zay'.
