Strategies to pass the DALF C1
- For the C1 synthesis, do NOT copy sentences from the text. Always rephrase in your own words. Paraphrasing is the most heavily assessed criterion.
- In C1 listening comprehension, you'll hear academic lectures. Practise with TED Talks in French and France Culture's 'Les chemins de la philosophie'.
- The C1 writing task has two parts. Split your time: 60 minutes for the synthesis, 45 minutes for the opinion text, 15 minutes to review.
- In speaking, the examiner expects you to take a nuanced position. Avoid binary answers (completely for/completely against).
- Social sciences vocabulary is essential: 'paradigme', 'émergence', 'inextricablement lié', 'remettre en question'. Study academic vocabulary.
