DALF C1 Mock Exam: Train Under Real Exam Conditions

Mock exams matter even more at DALF C1 than at earlier levels. The unique demands of the synthèse, the sheer length of the exam, and the difficulty of authentic documents make practicing under exact exam conditions essential, not optional.

Structure of the DALF C1 mock exam

A full C1 mock exam: (1) Compréhension de l'oral: 40 min, authentic documents (each played only ONCE). (2) Compréhension des écrits: 50 min. (3) Production écrite: 2h 30min — synthèse de documents (220 words) + essai argumentatif (250 words). The three collective papers add up to about 4 hours. (4) Production orale: 60 min of preparation, then roughly 30 min in front of the jury (presentation and debate), on a separate day.

The big C1 difference: a single listen

Unlike every DELF level (where each recording plays TWICE), at DALF C1 and C2 each document plays only ONCE. This changes the strategy completely: you must take organized notes during the recording itself, anticipate the structure of the discourse, and never count on a second pass to confirm your answers.

Note-taking strategy for the C1 oral

For the C1's single listen, use this note-taking system: listen to the opening to identify the topic and document type. Note down: key words, figures, and dates (never whole sentences). Use abbreviations and symbols (→ for "which implies", + for "and also", ≠ for "unlike"). Organize your notes in columns if there are multiple voices or perspectives.
