A 10-Week Study Plan for the DELF A2

Weeks 1-2: Review the passé composé and imparfait with irregular verbs. Weeks 3-4: Expand your topic vocabulary (work, the city, health). Weeks 5-6: Practise listening comprehension with simple podcasts. Weeks 7-8: Work on writing with email and message models. Weeks 9-10: Full mock exams and speaking practice.

Section-by-Section Strategies

Listening: read the questions before you listen. Reading: read the title and questions first. Writing: use the greeting–body–sign-off structure and connectors. Speaking: prepare a 2-minute "monologue" about your holidays, your family, and your job, and rehearse it out loud every day.

The 5 Costliest Mistakes at DELF A2

(1) Mixing up the passé composé and the imparfait: practise the distinction every day. (2) Forgetting the past participle agreement with "être" — a rule English simply doesn't have. (3) Writing fewer words than required in the writing test. (4) Not speaking during the oral exam out of fear of mistakes: making mistakes while speaking beats staying silent. (5) Not reviewing connectors: a text without connectors loses a lot of points.

Exam tips

  • Don't wait until exam day to practise speaking: start from day one of your preparation.
  • Pay close attention to irregular passé composé participles: faire → fait, prendre → pris, voir → vu.
  • Spend 15 minutes a day listening to French: radio, podcasts, or short videos with subtitles.
  • One week before the exam, run full mock tests under real timed conditions.
  • The night before the exam: review key expressions, get 8 hours of sleep, and eat well.
