DALF C2 Mock Exam: Prepare for the Master-Level French Diploma
The DALF C2 mock exam is the most intensive rehearsal in the whole DELF/DALF system. With authentic top-level documents, a 20-minute oral presentation, and a 400-word compte-rendu critique, it tests every part of your command of French at once.
The Structure of a Full DALF C2 Mock Exam
A complete C2 mock: (1) Compréhension et Production de l'oral: 90 minutes total. You hear one or two documents, once only, take notes, then deliver a 15-to-20-minute presentation followed by a debate. (2) Compréhension et Production des écrits: 3h 30min. You read and analyse 3-4 written documents and produce the compte-rendu critique (350-450 words). Total: roughly 5 hours of exam.
Strategy for the 4-Hour Written Paper
Recommended time split for the 3h 30min written paper: 45 minutes reading and analysing all the documents; 15 minutes planning the compte-rendu (structure, ideas, vocabulary); 2 hours drafting it; 30 minutes of thorough review — coherence, cohesion, vocabulary, grammar, spelling. This split protects the final 30 minutes, which is exactly where most candidates run out of time and skip it.
How to Improve After Each C2 Mock Exam
After every C2 mock, ask: Was your résumé genuinely objective, free of opinion? Was your critique specific and argued rather than vague? Did you vary your academic vocabulary? Was the grammar flawless, including the conditionnel passé for criticism? Did you use enough literary or philosophical analytical phrases?

Exam tips
- Start C2 mock exams at least three months before the real thing — you need real time to absorb this level, not just familiarise yourself with the format.
- Run compte-rendu critique mocks twice a week in the final month of preparation: the repetition builds automatic reflexes that panic can't erase.
- For the oral, practise presenting for a full 15-20 minutes without stopping — sustaining that length is a trained skill, not something fluent speakers do automatically.
- Reviewing your errors after each mock matters more than the mock itself: a mock you don't analyse afterward teaches you almost nothing.
- Find a native francophone proofreader for your compte-rendus: human feedback on argument quality is not something you can fully replace at C2.
