The Integrated Structure of the DALF C2
Unlike the DELF (four separate papers), the DALF C2 has two integrated blocks: (1) Compréhension et Production de l'oral (90 minutes): listening comprehension plus a presentation and debate. (2) Compréhension et Production des écrits (3h 30min): reading comprehension plus the compte-rendu critique. This integration reflects what C2 actually measures: at this level, comprehension and production are no longer separable skills.
The DALF C2 Documents: What Sets Them Apart
C2 documents are authentic and unadapted: quality press articles, literary extracts, philosophical essays, documentaries, and academic debates. There is no simplification of language here — these are the same texts a well-read native French speaker would encounter.
DALF C2 Grading Criteria
Production écrite is graded on: compétence sociolinguistique, compétence discursive (coherence and cohesion of the argument), compétence lexico-sémantique, compétence morphosyntaxique, and compétence orthographique — each on a 0-4 scale. Production orale is graded on: intégration du contenu documentaire, organisation du discours, précision lexicale, correction morphosyntaxique, and fluidité et prononciation.

Exam tips
- C2 runs about 5 hours: physical and mental stamina are genuinely part of what you're preparing, not a side issue.
- The C2 integrated structure — comprehension and production tested together — is a real cognitive step up from C1, so don't assume C1 habits transfer directly.
- Sit through the full 3h 30min written paper at least once before exam day: knowing your own stamina under that length changes how you pace yourself.
